Occupational Health and Safety Manager- Birla Nifty Pty Ltd

ADITYA BIRLA MINERALS PTY LTD is a part of the ADITYA BIRLA GROUP, which is among India’s largest business houses. Birla Copper is a world-class primary copper producer with current production of 55,000 tonnes per annum.
The company commenced operations in Australia through the acquisition of the Nifty Copper Operation in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia where the company has now developed a large scale underground mine and concentrator. Aditya Birla Minerals is aggressively pursuing further growth opportunities within the country that is expected to see the company become one of the most significant mining houses in Australia. The company has established its Australian head office in Perth.
The role is a rostered fly in/fly out position commuting from Perth on an 8 days On followed by 6 days R&R roster. The on site accommodation facilities include swimming pool, recreation room, tennis/basketball court, gymnasium and TV.

We are seeking an experienced Occupational Health and Safety Manager for our Nifty Copper Operation. Reporting directly to the General Manager the position forms an integral role in ensuring compliance is achieved in statutory areas by developing “Best Practice” systems in the areas of Occupational, Health, Safety and Training. Responsibilities will include:
Daily Management of the OH&S Department and developing systems of work and support for the OH&S Officers
Ensuring Quality systems in the area of Health, Safety and Training that comply with Australian and/or International Standards and add value to the business at Nifty.
Developing and implementing a training architecture that will envelope all departmental requirements.
Actively supporting and co-ordinating the occupational training and skills development of employees.
Develop and manage a reporting system, which will satisfy Company information requirements and government reporting regulation and ensuring that necessary reports are prepared and submitted.
Assist both the General Manager and Birla Corporate in liaison with various external parties as required. These may include Government departments, Lobby Groups and Public Interest Groups that will or may directly impact on the successful operations at Nifty.
Actively promoting safety awareness and developing a “Safety Culture” within the operation.
Contribute to the cost efficiency of the operations through preparation of annual operating costs and capital budgets for the Department.
Ensuring that award provisions and Company policies, plans and procedures are strictly complied with.
balancing and maintaining the harmony between the requirements of the OH&S and Operations.

A good degree of computer literacy and a strong experiential background are key elements to the role. To be considered for this role, it is highly desirable that you are able to demonstrate the following experience, skills and abilities:

A Tertiary qualification in OH&S or related field
Proven working knowledge of relevant occupational health and safety legislation for Western Australia
A minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in a senior OH&S role, preferably in a Mining Environment
Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (viewed favorably)
Effective interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to develop and maintain positive relationships across all personnel groups
Coordinating multiple projects to meet work schedules you will require a High level ability in analysis / problem solving, planning and organising.

A high level of computer literacy with the ability to create professional reports that are cogent and indexed with in the following software:
Microsoft Suite programs Word, Excel, PowerPoint
In-house INX System – InControl and InTuition
Strong supervisory skills including but not limited to:
Delegation/prioritising
Leadership/motivation of others
Counselling/disciplining
